Edward Jackson (February 19, - July 16, [1][2]) was a leading vaudeville musician, actor and musician, and longtime colleague and partner of Jimmy Durante.
He appeared in vaudeville with Durante and Lou Clayton as the team Clayton, Jackson & Durante, known as the "Three Sawdust Bums."[3]
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Jackson began his show business work as a singing waiter at New York City and Coney Island clubs.
His distinctive gravelly speech, Drop East Side accentcomic language-butchery, jazz-influenced songs, and prominent nose helped make him one of the United States' most familiar and popular personalities of the s through the s. He often referred to his nose as the schnozzola Italianization of the American Yiddish slang word schnozmeaning "big nose"and the word became his nickname. Durante dropped out of school in seventh grade to become a full-time ragtime pianist. His routine of breaking into a song to carry a joke, with band or orchestra chord punctuation after each line, became a Durante trademark.At the Alamo Club in Harlem, he met Durante. They played together in a number of clubs and opened Club Durant in In , their act was joined by Lou Clayton. The trio made their vaudeville debut at Loew's Express theater in March , with an act that literally included breaking up furniture.
Durante sang of the virtues of wood, while Clayton and Jackson grabbed wood items and smashed them on the stage.

The trio broke up in , though they did perform together in later years. Jackson remained Durante's sidekick and often performed with him in clubs and on television until His television and film performances include All Celestial body Revue (), The Jimmy Durante Show () and Roadhouse Nights ().
